I think the OP was just asking if there was a traditional birthday gift for a Muslim. Personally, I think it was a nice idea. Lets not carried away with the subject. Lets just say a Muslim baby would like anything else like any other child in the world.

vansboy, why not just buy a nice little scholl? (sp) It's useful and is something that can be past along.

  • What's a scholl? I'd say a nice blanket or a little baby santa outfit. Ok, Father Christmas isn't Muslim but babies look so cute in those little Christmas outfits. Maybe a snowman outfit which is a bit more neutral. Or a reindeer. :)

I think nealallan means a shawl which is a nice thought.
I also think vansboy is very thoughtful I'd 2nd a photoframe can never have too many photo's of your gorgeous lo so any new parent's would appreciate that.

Just about anything will be fine, shawl sounds nice, cute clothes too - anything you would like.

Just as a note though - a bottle of bubbly wouldn't be appropriate and *some* muslims don't put up pictures of people up due to it being believed that Allah doesn't enter rooms where there are images of object with a soul i.e. people.(so a silver photo frame *might* not be appropriate). However, whatever you give I am sure will be appreciated and the kind thought will be appreciated.

Thank you, sonee and zziggi, for confirming my vague notion that not all muslims would want a photo frame, glad to know I'm not going doolally!

How about a photo album for them to keep their pictures of the new baby or are they becoming obsolete in these days of digital cameras?
Are photo albums ok as they aren't on display as a photo in a frame would be???

perhaps they would like a traditional english gift? after all they are living in england now

Islam is a religion not a race.

To the original person, I am sure you would delight them by buying anything.(bar alcohol or pork) As far as the picture thing goes, this varies from different schools of thought. Also, culture can determine the way a muslim family might practise. There are many different opnions on this. What about an item of clothing for the baby, or a bunch of flowers and a card? A cake even? Bless you for thinking of them.
