Child Benefit

The child benefit I receive for my 13 year old daughter suddenly stopped in aug 19 and unfortunately due to a chaotic year of moving three times I didn’t notice until recently! They have said that it’s because my address was not updated and as a result I therefore didn’t respond to their correspondence. (Went to wrong address). I had updated my address on the HMRC government gateway site for my self assessment and thought it would update my details overall for everything eg filter through to child benefit etc. Apparently not and because I was mistaken they won’t back date more than 3 months and I have to reapply for the child benefit. I appreciate this was my mistake but I can’t really afford to lose approx £900 because of a change of address misunderstanding. Is there anyway to appeal this or should I just accept?

Unfortunately I think you have to accept the loss. You are required to report any changes and if you don't the benefit may stop.
https://www.gov.uk/report-changes-child-benefitIf you do not report a change to your address, and the Child Benefit Office is not able to contact you, your payments will stop. It's a long time not to notice that you weren't getting the money into your account.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
10 months without noticing, that's a long time. Don't you ever check your bank? There's nothing to appeal because you didn't report the changes.

Without sounding too harsh, you say you can't afford to lose £900 but you have already manged without the money coming into your account?
