Samsung black shadow on screen

I have a 52inch samsung tv which I purchased 20 months ago. Half of the tv is covered by a black shadow. I have contacted samsung and they said because the 12 month warranty has run out i will have to pay for the repair. I have noticed that there are a lot of people with this same problem and it seems to be a common fault. What are my rights in this situation and can samsung be held responsible for so many of their products having the same fault?

No rights against Samsung warranty is a free extra subject to their terms .

Your Consumer Rights are against the vendor contact them .

But as above, warranty is in excess of consumer rights and so can have any reasonable terms applied as they wish. Your consumer rights are with the vendor ... they may lawfully request you to obtain an engineer's report that shows (on the balance of probabilities) that the fault was inherent (present but not apparent at the time of sale) rather than user-caused before they're obliged to provide a remedy (repair, replace, refund - partial to account for time of ownership). The reasonable costs of such a report would be claimable from the vendor too.

What sort of shadow do you mean? There are two types of things with a screen that people commonly call shadows and one is if some of the backlights have failed leaving the screen faded but working, the other is physical damage which leaves the damaged area completely black.
