Paypal why have they done this?

I requested a payment from my Paypal account through Xoom of £344 on 14th June to go to my Santander account.

This went through. When I view my Santander account a payment of £346.49 left my account as a payment to Paypal.....why. I contacted Santander who told me they had a direct debit request from Paypal for this money???

Also when I look at my paypal account there is what is termed 'pre approved payment' of minus £15.59 what is this?

Strangely my Paypal balance shows £328.49 which along with the £15.59 equals £344 which I sent to my Santander account. Why am short of £15.59 if this balance is to be believed.

Why is this balance in my Paypal account as the £344 I sent should have cleared it out.

There is no phone number that you can call so my only option was to send a message, to which so far they haven't replied.

Xoom charges a fee for money transfers.  £2.49 for this transfer: 



I've no idea why your PayPal balance is showing as £328.49 or what the £15.59 is for.  I guess £2.49 of that is the transaction fee, leaving £13.10 uncounted for.  I have a PayPal debit card.  The way PayPal handles transactions is sometimes shown in an unusual way, however, so far, things have always work out correctly for me in the end.

Another mystery: why are you topping up your PayPal account using Xoom?  I thought the primary purpose of Xoom was sending money abroad at expensive rates.

Another mystery: why are you topping up your PayPal account using Xoom?  I thought the primary purpose of Xoom was sending money abroad at expensive rates.

I used Xoom as that was the only option that presented itself. Yes I'd worked out the £2.49 was the transaction fee but £15.59 is a mystery.....as is all the rest of it.
