The shops are opening, along with outdoor markets, playgrounds, zoos and "garden attractions" ......... but we are not allowed to travel more than 5 miles to access them.

So, fine if you live in the middle of a city, but the rest of us are still stuck.

I might need to change my name to Dominic!

I live in a city but don't drive so won't really help me much either.

  • I just want to take a walk on the beach :(  We only live 25 miles away.  45min door to wave.  Never thought it would be an issue.  It's not even a busy beach.  Even in the peak of holiday season on a sunny day there's not more than 20 people there.

Don't think there was any covid fines handed out for being more than 5 miles from home during various protests around the country. And many were not even social distancing.

Police didn't even get out their van when I was at the beach a few days ago, they just looked around to see if the group's looked like families / couples etc, stayed about 5 minutes and went.

  • Thanks :)  You're right that it's not being enforced.  And even if it was, then the obvious (and ironic) loophole would be to get my brother to meet us there to go for a walk, since you are allowed to travel to meet friends or family.  It's just that I won't enjoy it if I think I am bending or breaking the rules.  Daft really.

And the differences are getting annoying too.  There are a number of families up from England, staying in their camper vans, making use of local hiking and biking trails, while locals from even just 10 miles away who would love to visit are staying away and trying to stick to the rules.  (NB, not an anti-English statement, just an anti-rule-breaker one).

    No offense taken 😂

The beach I went to was about 20 miles from my home and I honestly felt so much better for going as I rarely go out (disabled) and it gave a quick recharge of my batteries. I only thought I was being 'naughty' when the police pulled up. By the time I was going the car park was full.
