  • It does sound like you are a bit out of pocket which is unfortunate but I would reiterate that there appears to be no mileage in taking this further for the sums involved.
You have no clear evidence as to what exact portion of the increased bill relates to specifically using that heater as opposed to other possible factors.
Also the landlord has provided a heating system of some sort, appliances may be efficient/inefficient/cheap/costly to run. I'm just not sure his obligation extends here beyond the provision of the heater, the bills were for you to manage.
On the plus point, you have moved on, and given the difficulties you described its onwards and upwards.

So I had a loss of about 200. I can span this about better if I needed to, I have copies of the bills etc, some differentiate because they amount to sometimes two months of usage.

I see, that does make sense, basically i'm at a loss of evidence, if I were to dig into electricity usage, maybe chancing what the appliances could have been costing, would I be any closer to a proper argument. There's nothing really in place legally to protect me from this difficulty of the bill?

Rather than quoting the bill amounts (some spanning 2 months and possibly estimates), could you show the change in actual usage based on meter readings?
But even if your usage doubled/trippled, that begs the quesion - why? Simply turning up the heating would not cure mould, so what were you trying to achieve?
I doubt a claim will succeed, and if it does it will be for a minimal amount.Plus there' the time and cost of claiming, with the risk of failure.
The time to take action was during the tenancy eg approaching EH for help.
