Furlough fraud

My boss in a local pub I work in has made it difficult to receive furlough payment and has in fact told another employee that a month of her wage has gone (April) as that month is ‘a dead month’?? We are both on the books and received our furlough letters dated from 21st March.  My colleague doesn’t know what to do about this? Any advice would be appreciated.

  • It depends, they have to comply with your contract, you can attempt to sue them for wages, he may just have not claimed the furlough, he may of course have claimed it, not paid you and kept it, those instances will likely mean he will get caught in the end.

There is not much she can do, especially if she wants a job there when furlough ends. If he has breached her contract, not paid her and she finds alternative employment then once they reopen she could take him to a small claims court and would potentially win the money (provided he does not go bust in the interim), but beyond that unfortunately there is not a huge amount anyone can do at the moment.
