Finding spec details iphone 4s & resetting

Hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm trying to understand the spec of my old iphone 4s before passing it on now I'm treating myself to a new phone. So, when I go to Settings/General then to Capacity it states 12.6 gb then & by Available it states 9.9 bg. Is 12.6 GB the total capacity? I feel sure when I first got it it was 16 gb so this is why I'm a little confused. Also, before I give it away, how do I remove my data & restore it to factory settings?

16GB is the nominal storage capacity. Once you factor in the space needed by iOS then the actual available storage capacity is 12.6GB (in this case - it can vary by iOS version). 16GB can also depend on how they've counted the bits and bytes ... 16GB in binary is 16,384MB but in marketing speak they say also claim 16,000MB as 16GB. What gets reported on the device is based on binary, so 16GB as 16,000MB would be reported as 15.625GB binary.

Search online for the full instructions, but you'll need to remove the device from your iCloud account and then do a factory reset. Make sure you have a backup of anything important before you do this.
