New vehicle ordered Jan now want to deliver same 69 reg plate in July !!
Hiya all, just a bit of advice please:
I ordered a new Mercedes in Jan this year (so would have been a 69 reg plate) and it was due to be delivered around the time of lockdown so it was shelved.
The dealer now wants to deliver the same vehicle on the 1st July which we are now into 20 plates, should i ask for a newer vehicle as i have not taken delivery or made any payments yet?
It may seem trivial but i was ordering with a view of having the most recent reg number for the feel great factor...
Thanks in advance

You want the same vehicle?1

Was the vehicle actually registered and ready for delivery before the plate change?1

Its registered, too late. No one really cares about reg plates anymore. In a few weeks '20' won't be the most recent reg anyway.1

Apart from the "willy-wave" of the plate, there is actually a functional difference or two.
First is that the warranty will have started at registration date - so you've not had the benefit of the first three or more months of it, and it will expire at 2yr 8-9mo in your possession, instead of nearer 3yrs.
Second is that the start of April saw changes in the way CO2 emissions were calculated, resulting in many cars being rebanded and VED being more expensive. Are you actually benefitting from that?DoaM said:
Yes - it will have had the then-current age-identifier at the time of registration, as a brand new car. So the first reg date will be before 1st March. The exact same lump of steel and plastic registered after first March would have two different characters on the plate, and different again after 1st Sept. It's a wrinkle that many countries don't have - the UK is in a minority. Was the vehicle actually registered and ready for delivery before the plate change?2 -
Lockdown started end of March so if it was due to be delivered and registered then it would've been a 20 plate anyway. Was it a factory build or were you buying one from existing stock?ERUK1 said:Hiya all, just a bit of advice please:

Yep, this. You need to calculate how much the VED change will cost you, if anything, and how much the warranty is worth. Or maybe just mention the warranty issue to the dealer and ask for a discount or free warranty extension or free servicing or something.1 -
Hi All.
Yes i want the same vehicle.
Yes it was registered and ready for delivery prior to lockdown.
It was from factory stock.
Thank you everyone for your input, appreciated.

Did you buy it or leased it?

This is a good point.Penelopa.Pitstop said:Did you buy it or leased it?
If it's bought, the resale value will be affected by the plate on it.
If it's leased, who gives a monkeys.
As for the actual 'driving around' part, surely most Mercedes will be on a private plate anyway and no-one will know.0 -
You don't put it on a vanity plate until the reg is no longer current, as everyone assumes it is an old car trying to look new, and you need to flaunt the brand new car- that is why you bought new in the first place surely?BOWFER said:As for the actual 'driving around' part, surely most Mercedes will be on a private plate anyway and no-one will know.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
