DIY shrub stump removal

Hello,

I cut down a large unwanted shrub from by my front door. I am left however with the stump.

I have read online that if I drill holes into the stumps and fill; this will kill the stumps.

I wondered if anyone on MSE has actually done this successfully; and what they used to fill the stumps with. There seem to be various suggestions including rock salt; vinegar; Roundup.

Many thanks; and best wishes.

Roundup is just glyphosate, so you can drill holes, tip some in and then plug the hole. Whatever you do don't Google "Ecoplug Max Tree Stump Killer", you may think you've stumbled on an adult toy website ;-)

on a number of fairly large shrub stumps and it's worked every time. It takes a couple of weeks before you will notice any foliage that is sprouting to start to die off and it will be quite a few months before the whole of the stump and root system is dead.
One particularly large shrub stump (about 2" diameter) took about 5 months before it started rotting and was able to be removed easily.

Once you have drilled or chopped the stump and applied the liquid, make sure that you cover it well for a while (a weighted upside flower pot is ideal) to ensure that no animals will try chewing or scratching it.
