            Yes I took the op to mean he did not want physical gold but rather a gold fund. Thank you.1

            I would keep it relatively simple, gold sovereigns are one of the most liquid gold investments in the UK and trade at a tiny premium over intrinsic value at the moment. You could buy a little silver too but the issue with silver is VAT makes it more expensive to buy and large 1kg silver bars are expensive to post when you sell them-2

            I also use Wisdom Tree Physical Gold ETC.
 I'm very drawn to the permanent portfolio 25% each of shares, cash, gold, bonds. This ETC ticks the gold box for me.

 Why Wisdom Tree and not iShares Physical Gold ETC (SGLN) which is cheaper?
