Posting PIP form

This feels like a really stupid question but if I want to send my PIP form back with Signed For postage do I have to use a different envelope? The back page of the form itself has the address which I guess has the barcode for the prepaid postage, so would I have to use a different envelope without a window to negate that so the Signed For overrides it?

I know the postie signs for it once it reaches the centre and it still has to be scanned in, blah blah blah, but I'm considering it for peace of mind that I have proof it reached them in case they lose it and turn round and say it got lost in the post - if it's signed for when it gets there then it's proof that they lost it. Even though in reality it probably would make no difference and I'd have to send the info all again, like I said it would just be peace of mind. (Also prior to this year I'd not had problems with Royal Mail but several things have not reached me recently so I'm slightly more wary now and if it does get lost, I will want to know for sure if it got lost en route or after it reached them.)

Plus if it gets there in good time then takes ages to be scanned in and they say it's too late, I would have proof of when it reached them so I'll have done my bit; how long it takes them once it's their responsibility is out of my control and quite frankly their problem, not mine. Obviously I plan to send it in plenty of time, but with postal delays and short-staffing (both RM and DWP) I'm wanting to cover myself as much as possible!

It's proof it's arrived at the sorting office but not proof it's arrived with DWP. In my opinion, it's a waste of money sending recorded delivery. Proof of posting is free and all the proof you need that it's been posted.
If you do insist on sending by recorded delivery then i'd use a different envelope.

Thanks. Yes, I just want proof that it reached the address they've given me :)
  • I sent my mums signed for and in the envelope provided. Arrived, processed etc alright.

We did one this way a while back . You can post it using the prepaid 2nd class and just pay for signed for at the post office. Just the signed for part as the postage was prepaid

    Ooh that's interesting, thanks!
  • Not that many years ago I was told my someone at the DWP never to send anything to them signed for but to get proof of postage, when returning forms like PIP always send them at least 10 if not 14 days before they are due back as it takes them that long to scan them into the system and until they do that they haven't in their view received them.

Just an update: I did exactly this :) Sent it on Monday, it arrived and was signed for on Tuesday, then got a text from DWP early this morning to say they'd received it (so scanned into their system, I assume).

The sorting office scanning times do seem to have got back to what you would expect having been very bad some time ago.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

You're more than welcome. Glad to helped save a few pennies.

I know many say proof of is all you need, but when it comes down to it - the reassurance can be worth the extra for an important form if its only a few days before being late (I do proof of for most mail handling site stuff). Though avoiding special delivery as some sadly do pay £8+ not always realising its not needed.

    :)

It was in plenty of time, but you can guarantee it I'd left it until next week a few days before the date, it would have been delayed  and yes exactly, I wanted proof of delivery, which is standard for parcels but not letters - Signed For large letter was still cheaper than sending it as a small parcel.
