Unable to renew car tax as the MOT does not appear to have been extended due to Coronavirus-19
So I was about to pay next years road tax as the V11 has arrived.
And got this refusal online:
If both your vehicle tax and MOT run out this month << That's me
You cannot renew your vehicle tax until your MOT expiry date has been extended. This might mean you have to tax your vehicle later in the month.
Check that the MOT expiry date has been extended before you tax your vehicle << I checked and the MOT is stated as valid until 27 June 2020
And got this refusal online:
MOT test certificate could not be found
Sorry, it has not been possible to match the vehicle with a MOT Test Certificate at this time and you are unable to complete your application for vehicle tax using this service.

This does not necessarily mean the vehicle does not have a valid MOT Test Certificate. To apply for vehicle tax, the vehicle must have a valid MOT on the date the tax is due to begin.
If your MOT was due on or after 30 March 2020, it will be extended by 6 months. This is being done to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. If both your vehicle tax and MOT run out this month << That's me

What happens next? What have people found in a similar situation? Does the extension automatically kick in closer to the expiry date, so I can tax it then?
The wife is still too nervous about Coronavirus to allow the car to the MOT station.1

I am wondering the same, my OH,s MOT runs out 9th July, somebody on here will know in fact I'm sure I read somewhere on here that the DVLA update your MOT extension nearer the date it expires (maybe 3-4 days?) although I cant confirm that.0

Yep, it's a few days before the expiry. They've done it like that to allow you to stick with the same expiry date if you get it done within the month before.
Just because you can have a 6mo extension doesn't mean you HAVE to - there's plenty of testers still open.
Oh, and if it fails a test within the extension, the extension is cancelled immediately, not like failing before normal expiry.3 -
I've just booked my car in for the MOT, have been going to the same MOT Station for years and they are doing a while you wait and have no issue with taking it there. They cover the seat and always wear gloves even before CV-19 so personally dont see an issue. So wife doesnt want car to go to have an MOT but happy to go to the supermarket and shop for groceries0

Yes I get people not wanting to go out, but in this case. Unless she will have to take it there. Where is the issue. Some testers are fully wiping the cars interior down with cleaner when they have finished.Life in the slow lane0 -

Why can't they just extend all MOT expiry dates by 6 months? Extending it 4 days before due date seems a complicated way of doing things.

If you are really worried about it, and can't take the stress of waiting to see if it extends, park it up off-road, SORN it online, wait the 5 (I think- someone will know for sure) days and then tax it online from 1st June, it means paying twice for June though, but if it is a low tax rate it is cheaper than fretting. You can tax it again the next day, but you have to go into a Post Office to do it.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
