I could turn the heating off, but that defies the point of having a bundle of programmable thermostats all individually programmed with the temperature profile that we consider comfortable. If the bedrooms have dropped below the night time temperature I've configured, I want the heating to kick in just to bring it back up again. If I wasn't bothered and didn't mind being cooler, I'd set them lower??? I don't get this antiquated British mentality of "it's June so the heating must be off and we'll just have to freeze". It's insane. We're in a rented place so I don't want to invest too much of my own cash improving things. The one feature that I would add were it our place would be door sensors to lock out the underfloor heating thermostats if the patio or bi-fold doors are open. I do have to manually put them to standby if we have the doors open into the evening as the temperature drops.0

By all means you are free to put your heating on as and when you choose. I was just querying if it was really necessary. After all you have come on here asking why your energy consumption is so high. Don't shoot the messanger!1

dogshome said:18,945 Kwh of gas used over 243 days in a small house is HUGEIt is a Metric meter so check it's being billed as such - On the bill divide the number of Kwh charged by the meter units used, the answer should be around 11.2 - If it's around 31.5 you are being billed for an Imperial meter and seriously overcharged, so get onto BG0

WOMP WOMP WOMP - MY ERROR. Just did a calculation with an old bill. The 18000 units I posted originally was my error calculator must have been set to imperial - BG's bill is correctly charging me for metric. My actual usage is currently at 6712.07kWh in 232 days. Not 18000+. Apologies everyone - as I'm sure you can tell by now.. energy, maths general common sense is not my strong suit..
I'm going to keep on with daily readings. We seem to have got rid of the huge debit very suddenly somehow - so with daily meter readings that should give BG an opportunity to spot any problems there might be. We are actually in credit somehow now which is a weight off my mind but I'm cautious this could be a mistake. I'm hopeful we can get this sorted and all money paid appropriately come August and leave BG for a cheaper company.0 -
You've been in the house for nearly 8 months - so you should have lots of bills in your on line account. Just download one and look at the meter details.
One possible error is that you are reading the meter incorrectly - on modern meters watch out for the decimal point.

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

211 and 2355.56 kWh between January and March. So I think that is right as dividing 2355.56 by 211 is 11.17.

Sounds right and 2355 kWh is typical - where is the 18995 figure coming from ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
