Extended lunch break

so my employer has came up with the bright idea of unilaterally increasing my lunch break from 36 mins to 1 hour so as my working pattern fits in better with their resource and planning. 24 mins * 5 = 2 hours therefore my working week is extended by 2 hours to suit them for a extended break I don’t want, need or get paid for. I’m really !!!!!! off about it tbh I have bent over backwards for them during this covid period and this is the thanks you get. Do I just need to suck it up?

How long have you worked there ?

What time do you finish now what time would you finish if you took your 1 hour break ?

Im not a fan of an hour lunch break, much rather prefer 30 minutes, means I get home an hour earlier than what I used too.

So you think your working pattern should be left the way you like it, rather than fitting in with your employer's needs?

If you're in a union, talk to them.

I get why you're annoyed but think of it as 24 mins a day, which isn't a lot on a daily basis. I'm sure your employers are just trying to keep the business functioning and hopefully at the other end of covid it'll be back to normal. Why not speak to your employer and HR to ask if there's any way around it or if they'll give you the assurance it's only temporary.

Really, if such a slight change of working hours is your only problem, yours must be a truly gilded life.

Apart from your annoyance, does this actually have a significant impact?  For example, unable to collect children from childcare?  That type of impact might solicit more sympathy and options for a constructive discussion with the boss.

You’re right I should be over the moon my employer wants to take 2 hours per week off me for nothing in return = 1.39% of my week. If it’s not a big deal give me 1.39% of your savings sure you won’t miss it.
I have complete sympathy with people who have bigger worries than me at this time but we’re not in a race to the bottom and if we don’t fight for the little this systems affords us they will keep taking until there’s nothing left to take.

They’re not really taking time off you. You’re getting a longer lunch so are doing the same amount of work as before. They just want your work hours to align better with the business. It seems a sensible business decision.

Read a book or something in your extra time.

As it's worded it sounds more like a software/time recording issue rather than an actual work related issue. Could you take 0.6 of your lunch break at 12:00-12:36 and take the remaining 0.4 at the end of the day at a time which just happens to coincide with when you go home?

At least learn to pick your battles... Your employer hasn't 'taken 2 hours off you in return for nothing. They are doing their best to keep the business afloat, but of course if you aren't bothered about it sinking and you losing your job... If this is such a huge deal, and the way you're bleating about it suggests that you think it is, go and get another job.
