Down to one car - how to maintain 2 NCD's

Our second car is now at the end of its life and we are thinking that we don't need to replace it. We both have individual car insurance policies.  Obviously only one person can insure the remaining car. The question is - is it possible with one car to maintain both our no claims discounts? Perhaps we can alternate renewing the policy with the other person being a named driver? I remember there was a way to do this when I called to renew and the operator mentioned it was possible for 2 people and 1 car to do this. It would be a shame for one of us to lose our full NCD so hopefully someone knows how to do this.

Do the policy in your name, with OH as named driver.
The following year have it in OHs name, with you as named driver.
Just keep swapping policy holder and named driver each year.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.

You can alternate between you. Do you really need to keep one of the NCDs alive though? With a bog standard car and experienced older driver, companies often offer introductory bonuses and the difference between no and full NCD isn't necessarily that great.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks for confirming.

I should have said that both NCDs are needed as we may eventually get a replacement 2nd car. It's also good that we both have individual policies and cars.
  • As above, just alternate policies between you every year. That's what couple I know does.
