Car Insurance Advice Help please?

Hello,
I was involved in a car accident on 25th December 2019. My handbrake failed as I got out of the car to scrape my windscreen it rolled back throwing me to the ground (as the drivers door was still open) hitting a parked car before coming to a stop. My car was taken by my insurer for repair on 26th December 2019.
As of today’s date 15th June 2020 my car has still not been repaired and I do not have it in my possession. The car missed it’s annual pre-paid service and MOT with Hyundai at the end of February and it is SORN?d. This is now subject to a formal complaint with the Financial Ombudsman but I’m having to wait up to 2 months for one of their investigators to take up the case.
I have received a renewal quote from my insurer and they’ve given me a nominal reduction of about £80 (my car insurance expires at the end of June) and they have advised me to seek other quotes.
I would appreciate some advice on how I can get comparable quotes when my car doesn’t have an MOT, still in repair with my current insurer and I have not seen it since 25th December 2019 to give comments to its condition.
On the 26th June my car would have been with my Car Insurer for 6 months for repair. I was told last Wednesday that my car would be ready on Thursday and nearly a week later I have heard nothing - no reply to my chasing email.
I cannot tell you how stressful this process has been.
Any advice re getting an alternative quote under these circumstances would be appreciated.
Caroline

--- none of this is relevant for insurance, you don't need an MOT to have a car insured.
Regarding the rest. Have you lodged a complaint with your insurance company that the repairs haven't been completed between December and before Covid ground everything to a halt?
If so, what was their response?
If not, you should have put it through their internal complaints procedure before taking it to the ombudsman.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1 -
MovingForwards thank you very much for your reply. It is reassuring to know that I can approach insurers without a current MOT. I also assumed they’d want assurances about my car’s current condition
/ state of
repair.I have been through my insurers internal complaints procedure which is now why I am at the Financial Ombudsman level.Their final response was very brief. That their recommended repairer couldn’t have known there was a problem with the loom but they acknowledged poor communication and offered £200 compensation. I was given another date for completion of the repair for last Thursday 11th June, but this has also been missed and now response so far to my follow-up email.Thank you again.1
