Only re-pointing half a shared chimney stack

Hello,
I recently bought a house which the survey identified some damp around the chimney breast which he suggested was likely due to poor pointing / vegetation on the chimney stack(s).
The neighbour wasn't interested in having his side done because he hadn't noticed any problems and the vegetation was 'mother nature'. As such, I have since had just my half of both stacks re-pointed and the vegetation growth removed. I was really reluctant to pay another £400 to have his sides done.
The roofer told me it should be alright as the chimney voids are separate further down so any damp should go into his side but this sounded a bit odd to me since it's a shared chimney / wall.
Does anyone have any experience here and whether only re-pointing half the stacks was wise ?

You would have no right to trespass on his side and repair the whole stack anyway, whoever paid for it.
Nothing much you can do, just hope that the pointing on his side isn't so bad that bricks are coming out.
I doubt that he'll still benignly consider it 'mother nature' when he has several tons of masonry fallen through the roof and down to ground level...No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
If it causes damage to your property, you can address it under nuisance laws potentially. But hopefully fixing it on your side is enough. It depends on what specifically the problem was - it's often hard to be sure with chimney stacks.0
