Undelivered goods bought with credit card - am I protected?

Dear all

I sent flowers to my new girlfriend for her birthday last week, and they were not delivered. I ordered online using my (MBNA) credit card at about 7am on Wednesday, using the free next-day delivery advertised prominently throughout the site; it's now Sunday and there has been no sign of the flowers. She has been in the house all day, so it isn't a simple case of missing a courier / mail delivery.

Since I was working all day and was unable to make any private calls (and also to give the florist the benefit of the doubt) I didn't contact them on Friday, but am planning to contact them first thing tomorrow morning to complain. As the vendor they are obviously the liable party for goods that don't arrive, but I remember reading (years ago) that the credit card issuer is jointly responsible for problems with items you pay for using your card.

Can anyone enlighten me on this, and/or point me in the direction of any articles that will give me more information? I note the £17 has already been taken from my credit card account :(

Thanks for your help!

Scott

Incidentally, my account with MBNA is in good standing (been a customer for at least 18 months, no missed payments etc), and this is the first time I've used this florist website. Their "free next-day delivery" is the standard delivery option, and they say if you order by 4pm they'll deliver the next working day unless it's a Friday, in which case it'll be the following Tuesday that flowers are delivered.
