Breakdown cover on new cars
I have just bought a new Renault which comes with free breakdown assistance but excludes non warranty issues such as punctures.I am a disabled OAP who cannot change a tyre so have asked to upgrade the policy to cover this but Renault say I can’t as they don’t provide this service. They told me to buy another policy which is silly as I will have 2 lots of breakdown cover making the free one useless.I can’t buy just cover for punctures so am a loss to know what to do.Othe car manufacturers allow customers to upgrade their breakdown assistance policy by paying extra but Renault don’t.Can anyone advise me what to do other than to pay out for a new full policy which is expensive if I want non warranty cover.Thank you

You have a simple choice.
1. Buy a breakdown cover that offers what you want, but just happens to duplicate something you get for free with the car.
2. Buy a different car from somebody who includes what you want with it.
It may be too late for 2, which leaves 1 your only option.
A flat tyre is not the only "non-warranty" issue you may experience, so it sounds like the Renault cover is very limited anyway.0 -
I relied on the new car breakdown insurance, I don't recall any exceptions to stuff not covered by the warranty.0

You may want your own breakdown cover anyway as the ones provided by manufacturers tends to be the very basic "get you off the road to the nearest garage/dealer" type and don't include things like onwards travel, overnight accommodation or a temporary rental vehicle.

Who provides the Renault cover? AA? RAC?I would ring them, explain the problem, and ask what they can do for you. They can only say no!0

I’ve not needed to use the service, so no experience of it.0
