Package holiday might not be cancelled but we want to rebook / cancel anyway

Hi Rachel, what do the terms and conditions say about cancellation? You have roughly 40 days until you travel? If it is just the deposit, even though it is a lot of money, you will have to decide if you really do not want to travel this year, no matter what and take the hit. IF, you are willing to travel, if FCO restrictions lifted and all o.k. at other end then it would probably be worth paying it, with the understanding it may not go ahead anyway. However, this way you would then be able to request a refund if the holiday is cancelled or rebook to next year if you wish. Good luck, hard decision to make.rachaelfl said:Hi, can anyone advise what I should do please. I have a package holiday booked to go to Cyprus with my 83 year old mother the end of July with lastminute.com. I have continually tried to change the holiday to next year but they keep saying their is no availability, even though they have the same package holiday advertised on their website. I have also got written confirmation from the hotel that they are happy to reschedule at no extra charge and have availability on the dates I have requested, but lastminute.com are now ignoring my emails. I have paid just over £800 deposit and have another £2200 to pay on the 26th June. Do I pay this final balance or not? I appreciate if I don't i will be seen to of cancelled my holiday and lose my deposit, but I am unsure whether they will come after me for the remaining balance if I don't? I am keeping up-to-date with trust pilot re lastminute.com, and it looks like my money is going to just go into a black hole and its a lot of money to lose. It also looks like if you cancel they still charge you the full amount that you were supposed to pay anyway. I just don't know what to do.
Edited to add: Something Life Goes On said earlier in the thread might be worth looking into. Does your insurance cover you for FCO advice? Not sure what this is getting at but I think I am understanding that if it does then you can maybe cancel on FCO advice up to 28 days before the holiday is due? (not very clued up on that t.b.h.)0 -

The OP would be able to cancel a package holiday if FCO advice is against travel, but that advice might change.
So if the insurance lets you cancel if within 28 days of the advice the OP could cancel on the 27th June, but Jet2 might be waiting to cancel the holiday. If there is updated advice on the 28th June then the package holiday might end up going.
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

We decided to pay the extra and move it to next year. Good job we didn't go as we would of have to be sent back and had all the drama with the outbreak.0
