Car insurance no claims issue

Options
Hi everyone,
Back in October 2018 I had to phone my car insurance to make a claim as a local plumbing van hit my parked car and caused quite a lot of damage, they didn't stop but thankfully had a witness otherwise would never of known who they were.
Straight away tesco car insurance put my no claims on hold until they recovered their costs. June 2020 and the claim has only just been closed! My 3 years no claims have been given back to me, so all this time since October 2018 I have not been able to use my no claims and have had to declare this incident as my fault in quotes etc.
The problem I have now is that in January 2020 I hit someone whilst reversing from a space in a car park, I had no no claims to use at the time so obviously none could be taken from me for this claim. Now that I've been given it back in June 2020 is the whole 3 years for me to use or will it be all taken because of the incident 6 months ago?  The policy used for the January 2020 claim is over now and I'm with someone else

Thanks

You'll have to speak to your present insurer.  Presumably you've declared to the company who insures you now that you have a fault claim dating from January 2020.  The NCB reinstated by Tesco pre-dates the January incident, thus would have been extinguished by the January claim had it been in place at the time.  Logically speaking, therefore, it no longer exists.

    Hi

My present insurer knows about the claim in January.

I wasn't sure how it would be fair that the policy I had during the January incident I took out declaring I had no no claims bonus so had to pay a higher premium, but yet they can still take away a no claims bonus which I couldn't use.

I will phone them to ask but I thought I would get some advice first

    Thanks!
