How to get a private pension (Not employer)

If you have the sort of career where you change jobs every few years you will collect a lot of company pensions so it make sense to merge them together (as long as there are no penalties for doing so) to avoid you losing track of each one over the decades.cts_casemod said:Thank you all for your comments.
Are the fees realy relevant - once all gains are taken into account (do these mean better investments, for example)? Also, is it wise to move older pensions (from previous employers) into a single fund or better to diversify and keep them separate?
One of the best pieces of financial advice I was ever given was to setup my own private pension independent of any from employers. Over the years I have added money to it whenever I had some spare cash or been in jobs which didn't have a pension. I also use it as a collecting pot for small company pensions.

As to my current employer - The pension is not set yet - it will be with a company called 'friends lift' - if this is of any relevance.
Could that be "Friends Life"? Think it has been acquired by Aviva

Some employers negotiate big discounts for their workplace pensions , which you normally keep when you move on. Some are extremely good value , so worth keeping/adding /transferring other pensions to, as an alternative to opening up a new pension
