Blinds 2 Go, 5 year guarantee

Our blind has melted in the window and there’s 6 months left on the 5 year guarantee. Having contacted Blinds 2 go they’ve stated that the 5 years doesn’t cover the slats. Only the “components and cords” and the slats are only covered for 1 year. I’ve checked their website and there’s no mention of this. The only thing covered by 1 year is “Labour, Collection and Delivery”. Having queried their stance they’ve now stated that they wouldn’t be able to repair the melted slats as they’d need completely restrung and that they’re sorry they can’t help any further. I’m not sure where to go from here, surely the restringing is their problem not mine? Any help would be much appreciated, I’ve included a link to their guarantee page, no mention of slats being covered by one year not five.

They certainly can help further.  They just don't want to.  They could replace them.

If you bought the blinds with a 5yr guarantee, then they need to honour that.  Go through the T&Cs and if you're confident that there's no mention that it doesn't not cover the slats, then write to them explaining that and explaining what you want done to rectify the problem.

But why have they melted?  What has caused that?  The sun??
  • I’m not sure why they melted, we’ve had a few blinds from them and they’ve all been decent. It’s was a warm day but we’ve had warmer. I even sent them pics and they admitted they could see what had happened. They’re just not covering them. There’s no detailed T&C’s that I can see, just their “simple and straightforward” guarantee page on their site. Thankyou for the reply, I’ll get back on to them

Our blinds are covered unless you put them in a window? 😂 Wouldn’t put it past them

Which will mean a small partial refund after 4.5 years.
  • If there was a problem with the materials used not normally being able to stand up to sunlight (assuming that it is the sun that has caused the damage), I would have thought that they would have suffered well before now.
OP, is it possible that something you have cleaned them with has caused the material to degrade?

But that would be like an umbrella not being covered if it gets damaged by rain.

If the blind has melted because of the sun (the very thing it is designed to block) then it's not fit for purpose.  But I wonder if something was focussing the sun onto the blind - a car mirror maybe?  I wonder if they can see something from the photos that means it's not covered.

It doesn't matter. It's a warranty they are referring to and not statutory rights so if a manufacturer wanted to state that the warranty on an umbrella would be voided if that umbrella got wet, they are legally allowed to do so.

Sounds like the freak occurrence that caused a fire in a bedroom here - a make-up mirror caught the sun at just the right angle and up went the curtains.

A car mirror / shiny object immediately outside the house could have focused the light onto one spot - that's the only reasonable explanation if it's very localised damage.
