I think i was flashed but my V5 is in old address

I recently drove to Birmingham and there was a definite flash (it was night time) but I was doing 54 and the smart motorway signs said 60. I've since realised that my V5 is in not my previous 2 addresses, but the one before them, so if I have been flashed, a letter will have gone to this address.

If I update my V5 today, will they send a new ticket to my new address (if I was in fact flashed)?

TIA

Unlikely. They'll go with the keeper record that was in place at the time of the offence.

How long ago did you move from that address? Have you not noticed the lack of tax reminders? It might be worth posting a letter to "the current occupier", asking them nicely to forward any post received for you.

But if you really were doing 54 in a 60, the flash wasn't for you. Was it a double-flash, or single? Still take it as a hint to get it changed, though...

Is failing to change the V5 address potentially punishable by a £1000 fine? Or is that only for your driving licence? (The V5 doesn't need to be registered to your address, but it does need to be registered to an address at which you are contactable).

I'm definitely getting it changed, it just completely slipped my mind. I'm pretty sure it was a double flash...

Presumably it slipped your mind on each of the occasions that you moved! That seems to be looking for trouble/aggravation all for lack of making a simple list!
  • It might be a good idea to check here:

for possible points on your licence to make sure that no other offences have been committed with the relevant paperwork going to an old address.
