Married name and new driving license

I got married a few years ago. I had a provisional license about twenty years ago in my maiden name. Since I got married I have had my name changed on my passport, on my bank card, etc.
I want to start learning how to drive again so I’m going to apply for a provisional license.
Does the DVLA have a database with people’s names so I need to get my name updated or should I just apply for a provisional license using my married name?

As far as I know, someone only has to contact the DVLA to get his or her details updated if he or she actually has a provisional/driving license.
Can anyone clear things up for me?
Thanks

I believe provisional licences are only valid for 10 yesrs? I'd apply in your married name so when you pass you can get your full licence in your married name. I've had huge problems trying to get a new licence as my old licence had my old name and I don't know the number on it so will have to complete a paper form.0

When you do get your license keep the documents safe, ideally scan a copy to your laptop/PC and back up with all your other important documents.

You have a licence. Therefore you would need to amend details.
The reason is that even with only a provisional licence you could have points etc.0 -
Changing your name on any licence, whether provisional or a full driving licence requires a paper form (D1) and documents being sent in - but your provisional driving record still exists, so you don't need to apply for that. If you don't have your licence, you'll need to apply as if it were lost or stolen.

DVLA checks with the passport office, as they use your passport photo on the licence (unless you want to send them a different one).

I think some of the people who replied were thinking that you still have your old license. You only need to update your details if you currently have a provisional license or a driving license. On the form you are given, a replacement is only issued when you currently have a license and you need to update your name or other details on it.
“Replacement license due to a change of name or address (or both). I am enclosing my current driving license.”
The “previous license details” section is only if you have been previously banned from driving in the UK.The ID you normally provide as proof to get a provisional license is your passport, Apply for a new provisional license using your married name and provide the required ID and you will have no problems.0 -
Actually, on the form there is a section:”Has your name or address (or both) changed since your last license was issued?
If yes, write the previous details below”Your details will be updated on the system and you will receive a new provisional license in your current name.0 -

Write your previous name and/or previous address in that section.0
