Civil service reserve list

Hello , I was placed on a reserve list in January for a position within the civil service . Which will expire Jan 2021 . I’m concerned that covid has had approx 4 months of no recruitment at the moment . Does anyone know if the list will be extended , I’ve emailed and received a vague maybe maybe not reply depending on the department .
I’m in the position of a job anyways , would of liked this opportunity and it suits my skills perfectly .
thank you for reading or replies

If they don't know how will anybody on here know. Although it would depend on how desperate they are to recruit once they restart again.

In my experience, jobs in the civil service are very very rarely offered to people on a reserve list even in "normal times". It's really just a nicety which is only used if the sucessful applicant leaves very quickly (i.e. within a month or so).

Yes I agree. Reserve list means you were second (or worse) choice and it’s unlikely you’ll be given a job. If a new job becomes available they will be advertising that job again. They won’t just pick someone from the list.2

Thanks so much for replies, I’ll not expect anything to come from
the reserve list this time, as have been previously employed via a reserve list.
so maybe never say never ! sharpe106 said:If they don't know how will anybody on here know. Although it would depend on how desperate they are to recruit once they restart again.
I thought maybe someone maybe had enquires and got a more detailed reply than I that’s all ! Sorry if my question seemed idiotic .sharpe106 said:If they don't know how will anybody on here know. Although it would depend on how desperate they are to recruit once they restart again.

I may also add non of the original 24 successful first choice applicants are in place yet either due to covid and enhanced checks etc !

2 years ago a friend of mine was on the reserve list and got offered a job within 3 months. Obviously there was no pandemic then, but the civil service aren't always known for speed when it comes to employment! They have been busier than usual with everything that's been going on.
Good luck 👍mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊1 -
Thanks so much for this . The reply I got was from HR and they said if list was to be extended due to covid I’d hear from relevant employing department. Well done to your friend too. Yes the department I was going to has only just reopened.1

Some recruitment has started again as I’ve just went through a virtual interview for a role that was placed on hold after applying earlier in the year and passing the online tests.1

That’s positive news , thanks for reply and good luck hope it went well.0

To be honest I thought it was a lot easier than what a face to face would be because I got more time to prepared and practice because all they had you do was record answers to questions so it didn’t have you speaking to anyone else.Holmesy777 said:That’s positive news , thanks for reply and good luck hope it went well.1
