Dyson vacuum - drying filters after cleaning
Comments
-
Thanks all.Just to confirm: I cleaned them as per the manual (including shaking), and left them out (mostly in direct sunlight) for 30 hours to dry. Then when I came to use them, there was reduced/no suction and water appeared from nowhere! (Well, I presume from the filter housed in the "ball".) That's when I did the original post.Left the filters for another 18 hours to dry and also checked the vacuum to ensure no blockage - couldn't find anything. Switched on and initially there was reduced/no suction again. But then there was an audible sound (click or whizz?) from the machine, and it was working better than ever. So I presume that there may well have been some (partial?) blockage that I couldn't find that cleared itself - or the filter had been too damp to use. Thanks for the tips. I thought about drying them on a radiator, but the manual seemed to say not to do that. If I'd realised it was going to take 48 hrs rather than 24 I think I'd have done so from the outset. Spare/backup set of filters good idea. I've not looked at Dyson troubleshooting page yet, but will do so.0

I’m afraid I have always broken all their rules - washed regularly with a bit of detergent and hot water (makes a huge difference) then dried on the radiator. The original filters lasted at least 15 years, so it doesn’t seem to have caused any problems!0

Our filters have lasted at least ten years. (It's at least ten years old and they'd never been cleaned before the weekend! It does seem to work better now...)

Not for the problem I had, but... if I'd seen the video about removing and replacing the filters it would have made the job easier. I thought I was going to break it when both removing and replacing the second filter.NeverTooLate said:Dyson have a pretty good troubleshooting page, taking you step by step through what could be wrong:
