Garden Waste?

Options
I agreed a price with a fencing company to have old fence and gate removed and replaced. This happened on Friday. I got home from work, saw new fence then paid. I've just discovered down the side of my shed and next doors fence a bank of mud that they have removed, carried up garden and hidden there. If it rains it's gonna just seep into my shed.
I've contacted them about it. They said they don't normally remove it but can come back and move it for £10. I've been very polite and courteous and they've agreed to come and move it. I'm praying they will. Can I ask if I'm in the wrong? Thanks.

You're not in the wrong but that shouldn't have happened. I can't see what soil should be surplus if they've just replaced the fence and posts.
If you can't use that soil elsewhere in the garden and do it yourself £10 isn't a lot for peace of mind but they are taking the mick. If they come and do the job don't be persuaded that there was 'more than they thought so will be £20'. Let them load it and then pay the first figure.
It happens. Twice in my life I've got taken advantage of when I think I'm being kind to someone usually. Infurating but arguing with people who are working on the fly is pointless. They don't have a reputation to loose.
Where possibile I employ people I've seen working so that I can see a good job being done and make some enquiries.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

When you dig a hole, the soil you remove never seems to fit back into it again. That's especially true if you have stuffed a post into the hole in the meantime.
Maybe these guys didn't choose a good place to put it, but this was mainly poor communication about waste disposal. £10 is a reasonable figure to do it if the soil can't just be redistributed around the garden.
  • Thanks for your advice. Funny thing was they left quite a deep gap behind the fence that they could have put a lot of it there.
I was very courteous on the phone and tbh I think he knew he was in the wrong and had been rumbled as when I came home the next day they'd been and I haven't paid any extra. Now it doesn't look like I've hidden and buried bodies behind my shed.

'How To Complain' articles should always begin with advice to be ultra-courteous, not because lazy or  incompetent people deserve  a kid glove approach, but because it may work and save further hassle. Looks like your guys had consciences!
