Does a new Will simply supersede an old Will?

Options
My mother has been quoted an extortionate amount of money to re-write her Will at the solicitors she has used all her life. If she was to go elsewhere to get it done cheaper, will the new Will simply supersede the old and make it redundant?

Four figures for a non-complex Will, ridiculous. Good to know she can just go elsewhere then.

That is silly money, but use another solicitor not an unregulated will writer.

A will should have a clause in it saying something like "I hereby revoke all Wills and testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me" but it's still a good idea to get the original signed will and destroy it after the new one is made.

It's a good idea for us all to look back at our wills and see if they are still appropriate but they do not always  have to be rewritten.
Sometimes there will be bequests - I leave to  Fred Bloggs …..   and Fred Bloggs has now died. Unless there is a clause which says in the event of his death to Mary Bloggs. If Mary has also died then that gift will fail.
Sometimes we may say I leave to John Smith of 23 Acacia Avenue ……….   and John has moved then all that is needed is a covering note with the new address.
