Neighbour fence issues

Not sure if this is the right place to post but currently having a few issues with a fence and neighbour...
About a year ago the fence started falling so my neighbour took it upon himself when we were out to trespass onto our property and add as can see from the picture this unsightly looking bodge job to keep the fence from I'm not 100% what. Obviously he has done this is on our garden side so he can keep his side nice to look at and we have to deal with this to look at. When approached (politely) first off he got aggressive and defensive and said we can't take it down or the fence will fall. We proceeded with that he will get it sorted. It has been a year and I approached again yesterday where he then got aggressive again, said a load of nonsense, that he will get sorted and then ended in we can do what we want. So after taking all the nails out on our side so I can actually see what the problem is (or atleast to make it look neater) and or try to fix I have found out he has also stuck nails through from his side aswell so we actually can't even get the wood off! and I presume from his previous attitude to the situation he isn't going to take kindly to me asking him to take them out. Not sure if there is anything I can do to get these wood pieces off without doing to much damage from pulling or get in between to cut his nails from our side? Or even anything I can do from a legal stand point. Any advice would be great and if this is the wrong place to post super sorry.

Am I seeing this correctly - has the neighbour put up a piece of timber which runs from the fence across your garden to somewhere else in your garden?

Been up since both have moved in but we have looked after the back and the one on our right.

You have put up with two horizontal pieces of bracing timber going from one side of your garden to your garden shed for a year?

    You are far too accommodating.

Have you checked on your deeds to see if there is an indicator (usually a capital T) on who owns/is responsible for repairs.

Oh dear lord! I would never tolerate that, it's ridiculous the way he has spanned your garden with grace pieces! I'd take them down immediately and any other add ons that ca
n be removed and let him deal with the consequences.
thats an outrageous thing he's done.

Thats where its a struggle as he has stuck screws through from his garden which I can't get to. I already have taken out the ones he did on our side.
