Lower my bills

Options
im not great at sourcing  better energy bills  bit of a novice  but bill  due to go up  so trying to find a better deal, i have found one that the rate is slightly higher for units but standing charge is  quite a bit lower not sure how much that would be off set against the slightly higher unit rate

Don't bother with the likes of Lower My Bills, the net end result will be one that works for them and not necessarily for you.
Jump on the likes of the Energy Club (others are available) and do your own comparison and your own switch.  The offsets between a standing charge and the unit rate is worked out for you on the comparison websites, so a higher standing but lower unit rate (or vice versa) doesn't necessarily mean you're going to save anything.

It depends on how many units you consume a year, generally if you are a pretty low user then you might benefit from a lower standing charge but higher users generally get most benefit from a higher standing charge but lower unit costs - you need to do your sums base on your annual consumption in kwh.

It's quite easy - if you use 35000 kwh a year and save 1p/kwh =  3500kwh/year x 1p = £35  but you need a difference of 10/p day in the standing charge (365 days x10p) to save £35. (one penny on your standing charge is only worth £3.65 a year)

So there's no advantage in paying an extra penny/kw unless your s/c drops by 10p/day as well.

OP - what is your actual annual consumption ?  Have you a bill from about 12 months ago which shows an ACTUAL reading rather than ESTIMATED ?   Read your meter now and do some simple sums.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
