  • I had this issue once - although it was my other half that accidentally bought the wrong compost. I decided to stick with it and I found after a while that it grew on me.

How do you know that it's inferior to the Wickes compost? Compost being a natural product can vary greatly from batch to batch even within the same brand, a bag you buy this week can be a completely different consistency to a bag you buy next week.

Maybe the OP's plants can read - and they won't put up with anything less than Wickes compost!! They could be triffids.
  • If I could get any sort of compost I'd be happy....

My choice of multi purpose compost is usually based on which is the cheapest and over the years I have had variations in quality from "excellent" to "there is less wood chips in a bag of wood chips" even with major "quality" brands.  How do you know it is not the same product or as good a product you would have received considering the variation across batches ?  Wickes don't have a man out the back making their own you know.

Avoid pound shops, you only get a small bag for £1, the last lot i had was full of small flies
