Attendance allowance - after death

Hello
My father passed away late Feb this year - he received an Attendance allowance and as soon as he passed away I informed the DWP.
Just today, 3 months later I've received a letter saying they need some answers from me to check if they owe anything, or if we owe them anything regarding these payments.
The questions just ask for MY NI number, and bank details.

I'm not sure what this means - there are no other question attached - so how can they not know if they owe or we owe?
If he owed them anything, does this mean I am liable to pay it?
In the same vein, if he is owed anything, would I receive it? There is a helpline which I'll call next week, just wondered if anyone has dealt with something similar.
Thank you

might it be worth having a look on the death and probate board to see if there’s a thread that might help? Sorry I don’t know anything in regards to attendance allowance but didn’t want to ignore the post.1

This should have been sorted out as part of probate (assuming there was probate?) however if you informed the DWP soon as then there shouldn't be a problem1
