Can I cancel a lease deal before taking delivery of the car?
Hi there,
Any help would be appreciated on this. I agreed to a lease deal for a car late February with delivery due to happen in late March. But due to covid19 the company in question locked down and said that delivery wasn't possible and would be in contact when they could.
During this time I have found out that the contracts i work on (being self employed) have been cancelled, so the rest of the year looks very bleak. So ideally I want to cancel this contract.
They have recently got back in touch saying they can now deliver the car. I signed a vehicle order from in February agreeing to the direct debits etc. But I haven't handed over any money yet, including the deposit.
Is it possible to just cancel this order, or will this effect my credit rating?

I think your first port of call will be to look at the T&Cs that you signed back in February.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

You should tell the company that you are having second thoughts and ask what your rights are if you choose to cancel. Do you have a copy of the terms and conditions?
A car dealer once got in touch with me to tell me that an unprecedented airbag recall would delay delivery longer than the 2-6 week estimate...
I said this was unacceptable and wanted to cancel. His reaction - "fair enough". Didn't even fight me on it.
The finance I previously agreed to was forgotten about with no repercussions. In my mind - it is the dealer who was not providing services within the agreed time scale.
With regards to the finance and not the actual vehicle itself, until you have been given the money to pay for the car by the finance company - I.e. on the delivery date, I believe you are protected by a 14 day cooling off period.
