Incorrect MOT logged by garage 2 years ago

Hello!
I am trying to part exchange my car 2014 plate car (Peugeot 208) with a main dealer and my car had an issue come up with the HPI check. It turns out the 2018 MOT logged the mileage 2000 miles less than the 2017 mileage reading, which is obviously the result of an incorrect recording by the garage doing the MOT. The only documentation I have from the MOT is the certificate itself, which shows the incorrect mileage. Unless I can get the garage which did the MOT to dig out a record they made a mistake (and be willing to own up to it to VOSA), I fear I won't be able to sell the car. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

Is the dealer refusing to accept the car as a trade in?
    Go to another dealer.

They have said that unless the mileage discrepancy is resolved it cannot be taken as part exchange.

It's highly unlikely the MOT garage will able to confirm or deny the mileage, their records will probably just show the incorrect one.

Did you have a service or anything done around the same time which might show the correct mileage at that time? Is there an obvious error, eg an 8 being mistaken for a 6 or similar?

Sadly no service, just an MOT. I suspect an 8 was read for a 5.

You only get 7 days to go back to the garage and get the error corrected so no chance now.
I was lucky, when that happened to me the mileage was 50k out and I'd had the vehicle for years before and after so the mistake is obvious.

They're massively over-reacting in saying they won't take it in, for such an obvious error - but such is their prerogative. They don't have to buy it.

The mileage is noted by the tester from the odometer onto his checklist, then copied from that onto the computer. So, yes, the only note the test centre have will show what he wrote down, if the checklist has been kept, otherwise the computer record - and you know that's wrong.

The time to point the error out to the test centre was within 28 days of the test, not 7 as Glen says above - but that difference is academic after two years... But you can still get it corrected by getting in contact with DVSA, although you will need to prove that it was an error, by providing other documentary evidence of the mileage at or around the time...

They won't take it at full value, because any buyer who does a check will see "Mileage discrepancy" in flashing red text and run a mile, rather than try and second guess a typo, so they won't be able to sell it at full value.  You might have more luck selling privately, at least you can explain to a prospective buyer (who will likely still want a discount)

Did the 2019 M.O.T. take the correct mileage. I have an incorrect M.O.T. too, but was about 5 years ago, so not relevant now.
Do I need it or just want it.

I ended up selling the car privately and then completing my new car purchase. Now after every MOT I always check the recorded mileage on the MOT certificate vs the odometer.
