I've put a refundable deposit down on a C Max. The one I went for stank of stale smoke and really put me off. So they found what I was looking for in Yorkshire so needs to be moved south so I can view.
It's a 66 plate 1.5 tdci titanium 20k miles
The advert states the car tax is £125 but when I checked online it said £20 which is correct?
They tried to sell us extras including gap insurance, I thought this was for those with finance? They didn't give us a price for this but was sold on the basis that if the car was to be written off in the next 4 years, we would receive the full £9k between the insurance and gap insurance is this correct?
Many thanks

If it's 101-110g/km, it's £20.
If it's 111-120, it's £30.
If it's 121-130, it's £125.
Different options affect the weight, different wheels and tyres affect the rolling resistance, so you need to check that PRECISE car. 66 plate was up to 1st March 2017, so it's definitely before (even if only just) the flat-rate £140 for cars first reg from the end of March 17.They tried to sell us extras including gap insurance, I thought this was for those with finance? That's what Return to Invoice (RTI) gap does, yep. Get a price, check if it's cheaper buying it on your own, if you want it.0 -
You are a star thank you! Car was registered Oct 2016,and has 105 emissions so will be £20

Get a few quotes online for GAP, it's very likely to be much cheaper and more comprehensive than the dealers offerings.
I personally have a 5yr plan with TotalLossGap as they do vehicle replacement (e.g. if you write off in 2 yrs and an equivalent 3yr old C-Max now costs £12k to buy, you get the extra £3k from your invoice price) for used cars up to 5yrs. Mine was only £250, so £50 a year.
Other companies I see regularly quoted are ALA and Gapinsurnace.0 -
Don't be swayed by the low mileage, it isn't always a bonus with modern diesels.1

Thanks all, I had one quick look at gap insurance and was quoted £150 for 4 years, this was much cheaper than ford when I checked the email they'd sent through. But need to do some more research.
I found it really hard trying to gauge the miles, the one I wanted that stank was was closer to 30k for the same age and matched my mileage more closely which I saw as a good thing.
Having upped the budget from £5k to £10k max with £9k was my preferred price trying to find a C max from the dealership that fit my budget was challenging.
We are under no obligation to take the car so will see how it feels when it arrives in Bristol.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
