Mastercard passcode issues

Has anyone else had issues with Mastercard's passcode system? I live in an area with no mobile signal. Now, Mastercard sends a code via SMS to authenticate/authorise online purchases, but I can't get the text with the code. I don't even have time to drive the 1 mile out of the village to somewhere with signal to get it, as the code has to be entered within 10 minutes. I've contacted my card provider to ask if I can have to code via email but have been told the only option is SMS. The only help they could offer is that, when it happens, I ring the Customer Service centre and they will override the system to allow me to go ahead with the purchase. The customer service centre is not open 24 hours and they don't always answer the phone within 10 minutes so I can't see how this particularly helps. It is driving me insane. Has anyone else come across this and found a solution?

It's nothing to do with Mastercard as such but your card provider's policy on strong customer authentication. Some card providers do offer other forms of contact instead of SMS, and the FCA expects them all to accommodate those who can't receive passcodes via SMS, but most have adopted SMS as their standard. Can your phone receive texts via wifi?
You might find another card provider helps - I did try to round up the SCA proposals of all the main providers when this was being anticipated to be introduced last year, but haven't updated the thread for a long time once (mandatory) implementation was deferred to 2021: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6021774/strong-customer-authentication-now-delayed-changes-to-online-verification/p11 -
thank you. No, my phone cant receive SMS texts via WIFI. My card provider (John Lewis Financial Services) is insisting that it is Mastercard's decision. I have asked for an alternative but they just say there isnt one.0

Does your Mastercard not give you the option of getting a call on your landline?0
