New Fridge Freezer not cold enough

Just bought a new all singing and dancing LG fridge freezer. I decided to get a digital thermometer so I could check the temperature. It’s been on a few day’s now. The freezer temp is fine but the fridge is not getting any lower than 5.5 degrees. I have tried the temperature on both 4 and 3. Could the cheap thermometer I have just be out?

The temperature will be different at different times in the operation cycle & different at different places in the fridge. The best way to measure the temperature is to put the thermometer in something, like a glass of water. When you take it out to read leave it in the glass. The low tech way to set the temperature is to keep turning it cooler until you get ice on something, then wind it up a bit.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.1

modern fridge freezers take cold air from the freezer bit to cool the fridge. There could be a flap that is not opening or a fan that is not working plus check the freezer is not iced up, but that should not happen after just a couple of days.0

You can get digital max/min thermometers for a little over a tenner. Possibly worth investing in and leaving in the fridge for a couple of days to check before complaining to the supplier. I use a fairly basic fridge thermometer and as EssexExile says, the temperature does vary depending on where in the fridge it's put.

If the appliance was switched on prior to having been left to settle for a few hours post-delivery, the compressor oil may not have settled, leading to possible compressor damage, which could potentially be compromising the effectiveness of the cooling.
Alternatively, your thermomter might just not be accurate
