Travel Insurance Query

Looking for some advice please, we currently have a cruise booked that departs mid Sept.  We have booked flights and three nights hotel accommodation in Barcelona prior to the cruise.  In the event the cruise is cancelled we would prefer not to travel at all.  In this circumstance is it typical that travel insurance would cover the costs of the flights and hotel even if the flight is not cancelled and the hotel is open for business?

was this part of a package via a tour operator, if not, unless there is a cancellation for flights/ hotel you won't be able to claim back as they are independent of the cruise.

Need some advice please, my partner and I have booked a holiday in June 2021 to take my 84 year old father in law with us. When should we get the travel insurance? Been quite difficult to find any quotes For annual cover for myself and my partner at the moment, let alone my father in law 😔
