Hi, This is more of a shout out to those who are not aware....
I attempted to pay a tax bill in March and was told by HMRC that their payments were suspended due to CV19 and that they would contact me when I could pay again.
Today, I received a letter which listed interest up to 04/Jun and in fact, since that day it has gone up again.  When I queried this I was told that although they were able to suspend the abliity to pay, they were not able to suspend the interest accrual at the same time.  To get the money back I have to open an appeal.  The person I spoke to has said he is getting lots of complaints about the same thing.

Hopefully this will help someone.

Which "tax" did you try to pay in March? Self-assessment, VAT, corporation tax, another tax?
I have paid VAT, payroll taxes and corporation tax for my limited company within the last week, I paid my personal self-assessment tax for 19/20 in late May so they are going through.

Not that this helps the OP but I have also paid corporation tax, vat and PAYE since March via the gateway by debit card. Do you think this may have been an anomaly that was rectified?

It was SA for a Child Benefit Charge for a previous tax year(18-19).

I was told on the phone that I couldn't pay despite wanting to. The agent I spoke to said he was getting multiple complaints daily. It could be specific to child benefit charges only.
