My wife is part of choir that was meant to be visiting America in September and singing in different venues .
This has now been rescheduled for next year without a confirmed date, unfortunately she can’t go because of other commitments.
Her deposit was paid with a credit card but not the balance ,it is due shortly
The trip has been organised and itinerary set by the people who run the choir. She has been told that there might been people willing to take her place but failing that she will loose her deposit.

Obviously she doesn’t want to be out of pocket if another person cannot fill her place ,how could she go about getting her deposit back if the worse happens?

Who did she pay?0
-
The owner of the choir0

If she paid by credit card it must have been to an organisation unless it was through paypal.0

The owner of the choir has his own company, they have organised trips to England and Europe before. There was a 3% surcharge for using cards as well,a final balance won’t be required until next years itinerary is confirmed.0

It's illegal to impose a crrdit card surcharge in the UK.The organiser has to explain why he can't refund the deposit - sounds as if it's not within his control0

Can you please tell me which piece of legislation says you cannot impose a surcharge on credit card and does that apply to debit card payments as well?0

Yes it is,thanks0

Then you should not have been surcharged on a card payment, it's against the law. You should claim that back.Obtaining a refund on the deposit is another story.Your best hope is that the flight has to be cancelled due to travel restrictions.0

The event has already been cancelled and moved to next year so the trip is , in effect, cancelled.
I would try a charge back on the credit card.0
