I am on furlough and am currently in redundancy consultation period. It has been made pretty clear that I will be given notice next Friday. I have only been there 8 months so don’t qualify for redundancy pay. I will get 6 weeks notice period pay and accrued holiday at the end of July.

I am frantically looking for work and have had some interviews this week but they are saying they need someone immediately. Can I work before 31st July? My employer is obviously going to use furlough money to pay my notice period so I guess not? I work Mon-Thurs 9-5 so could I potentially work on Fridays?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

If you are on furlough then you can work for another company unless your contract forbids it.

My contract forbids it but I think I will go back and ask for this to be added to the redundancy letter as these are exceptional circumstances.

If I work for another company, does it have to be outside the hours of my current company?

Which is true but in theory they could call you back in if they chose at any point. Although if they do they could then they could stop paying your notice period as you refused to attend, but they still need to pay your redundancy pay.
