(Still in queue for Ryanair chat). Ryanair have cancelled my flight back ( flying out with different airline) for August and offered refund or to change flight.  If I change the flight does that constitute a whole new booking/contract - original flight booked in February ?  There is €170 difference in price ( new flight cheaper) and I doubt they would refund me the difference (?) so should I just accept refund and do separate booking or any benefit /rights if I let them just change it?  Please direct me to another thread if there is one that asked this specific question as I couldn’t find one . Thanks in advance. 🙂

I think you're right that if you simply move the booking then there'll be no refund of the difference.

When you ask Ryanair for a refund it will initially come as a voucher. The voucher is flexible and could be used to book the flights at a cheaper price, and then you keep any remaining credit on the voucher to use at a later date.

Or of course you are entitled to a full refund. Once you get your voucher you can ask to be added to the queue for a cash refund.

  • If I/they move my booking do I lose any pre-COVID booking rights I have?

Ryanair are a non-refundable airline and that hasn't changed.  If your flight wasn't cancelled, you wouldn't have been entitled to a refund.  What Ryanair have currently done is to remove change fees for new bookings for flights in July and August allowing people some temporary flexibility.  There's no such waiver currently for flights after August.

Obviously, should you re-book and your new flight was cancelled, you'd be entitled to a change or refund as you are now.  That won't change.

One thing to consider is travel insurance.  If you had that from booking in February you might have cover which would include Covid-19 related disruption.  If you book a new flight today, you wouldn't be covered.
  • Thank you for your reply.  Travel insurance is another issue !!  Annual policy runs out in July and Holiday extras have stopped all renewals and new policies.😠
