  • We weren't given a copy of any paperwork and there are no terms and conditions online for our nursery

In that case just ignore them, they haven't got a leg to stand on. You didn't agree to anything, you didn't sign anything, it was all just verbal at most.

    REALLY!
For most parents, selecting a nursery is a big decision, both to get the correct environment for their child and because it is a big financial commitment.
Likewise, the nurseries provide masses of registration paperwork as they have a duty of care to know about the child and provide facilities and care.

You may have lost or forgotten about the paperwork, but I can't believe there was none.  Paperwork may have been provided electronically via e-mail, or similar, but there will definitely be something there somewhere at sometime.

I have to say I find it hard to believe there is no paperwork from the nursery. Usually there is a pack with various bits and pieces in relating to safeguarding, trips and fees etc.

If you no longer require the place then yes the standard termination charges will be payable. Unprecedented times or not you are choosing to break the contract so yes the nursery will protect their financial interests.

Assuming you paid a deposit to the nursery you might find they just keep that if you don’t pay the money requested.
