Notice period while on furlough

Hi,
I have been with my current employer since September/October last year and have since been furloughed due to coronavirus, my workplace is due to open back up however due to changes in circumstances from coronavirus I will not be able to balance my work life any more, I have therefore taken the decision to terminate my employment, my question is: is there anything that would effect me handing in my notice while on furlough and is it possible and what happens regarding my notice period and the furlough, will I need to return to the workplace or can I effectively work notice on furlough. I also do not know what my notice period is.

Furlough does not change any of your employment contract, except temporarily pay. So your notice period will be the same. If they want you to work it or keep you furloughed will but up to your employer, so all you can do is get in touch with them and see.0

You need to look at your contract of employment to see what your notice is. If it is not mentioned, the statutory amount of notice is one week for your length of service. You can be furloughed during your notice period. If you are already on furlough, your employer will probably want to postpone your leaving date until the furlough has expired. You may also have accrued holiday.0

Thank you for your reply, at the moment there is no definitive date for me to return to work as everyone is going at different times, I have also used holidays so pretty sure that’s not an issue, the one thing I am concerned about is that my decision to not return to work is based on me not being able to due to children and also other caring responsibilities. I read on another forum that because I would no longer be on the retention scheme that I may have to go and work my notice and employer pay me 100% of my wage.

Hold off resignation until the latest point.
Have you asked about flexibility that allow you to manage child care until normal returns? You can not lose anything.
How did you manage child care before?0
