British Gas Email
Options
Received an email today from British Gas telling me how well they're doing during the current lock down and exhorting me to check that I'm on the best tariff. I followed through the process and what do you know? The cheapest quote they gave me was £212.97 MORE per annum than I currently pay them. Didn't they do well!

It will monitor your tariff against the whole of market, not just BG, and alert you whenever there is a chaeper option. You can even set limits on how much you wish to save before being alerted.

Oh I see from your previous posts you do use the CEC, and switched to BG's Energy Plus Protection Dec 2020 tariff last November.
For an average user in the West Midlands supply region on that tariff, they could save over £200 pa switching to another supplier.
If you want to remain with a Big 6 supplier, you could still save £160-£170 pa with Eon or Edf. If you read this weeks MSE email, it says the best BG deal is reserved for brand new customers only, so existing BG customers should look at Eon.

Sorry for any confusion, I was just highlighting how ludicrous British Gas were stating they would put me on their 'best' tariff. I moved to British Gas in July 2019 via CEC and have changed to a cheaper tariff, still with BG, twice since then. Now, of course, any cheaper tariffs being offered by BG through comparison websites are restricted to new customers. I am happy enough with my current tariff as it's cheaper than most but were I able to move to BG's cheapest tariff I would save approx. £60 per annum. My current tariff doesn't end till February 2021 so I'll wait and see what's available then. I was just curious on receiving the email to see how much I could 'save'. Well, I know now.0

I’m coming to the end of a BG tariff which I got through CEC. Very disappointed to see the best BG would do is more expensive than the one I’m on, despite the drop in energy prices. I’m off to Green Network Energy.0
