Redundancy retraction

Options
Hi I work for British Gas smart meeting in March this year myself 75 colleagues entered the voluntary redundancy collective agreement the majority of us were told we had been accepted and redundancy lump sums discussed. 2 weeks after that phone call the company retracted due to covid stating it would be unfair to make people redundant is this climate and we were no longer off shoring the work to India . Today 5k job losses has been announced and we do not know where in the buisness it will be 6 months time before this is shared . I know that they can legally retract as is was still at a proposal stage and nothing signed. Can they however start where they left off or will we have to enter the consultation process from the start.

Jobs might be going from other areas. Off shoring is most likely not on the cards at the moment.

If the 75 of you are part of the 5,000 jobs affected as per the news, I imagine they would need to re-start the consultation from scratch and any previous packages that were discussed have gone to be replaced by whatever they now come up with.

Redundancy consultations have to be fair and the other 4,925 could argue it is not 'fair' if 75 of you are following a different process and different set of rules.

i did wonder what could happen to previous offers of redundancy and whether they are included in the 5000. as they had announced last year several thousand jobs were to be lost..
Out of interest as I work with b.gas and could be in a similar position soon. what was the calculation for the volountary redundancy package?

Usually they offer VR package when they are looking at restructuring rather then saving money. So you will probably find the new round is nowhere near as generous.
