Unable to get life Insurance as NHS nurse due to 'potential contact with coronavirus'.

Hi! I am feeling quite frustrated at being told i am unable to get life insurance at the moment due to the coronavirus outbreak. As soon as i declare that i am potentially in contact with suspected coronavirus patients i am rejected for insurance at the moment (despite working in quite a shielded department from patients). If i click 'no contact' i am immediately accepted. Most insurers FAQ's state reapplying in a month, however it is likely that i am going to be in contact with suspected coronavirus patients for a lot longer than this and am in need of a life insurance policy in order to progress with my mortgage application!
Any help and advice is appreciated! Thanks.

Which lender has required you to obtain life assurance?0

HSBC stated we should ideally have this in place in order for us to show our ability to keep up with mortgage payments. As they are the only lender we have managed to secure due to the current climate, i would prefer to have this in place ideally!.0

As part of your remuneration package you receive Death in Service cover. Along with the fact that your partner will receive a dependents pension.0

Oh that's good to know! Thank you!0

Personally, I don't recommend people use death in service as a way of protecting a mortgage. It's designed primarily to cover lost income and reduced pension benefits that your partner would receive, plus it's not contractually guaranteed and has been reduced over the years. I'm sure there is an insurer who will offer cover to NHS workers who are falling foul of the new covid questions but for the life of me I can't remember which insurer it is.1 -

Least with life assurance you bought, you know what to expect
