Accountant missed deadline

My accountant failed to do my 18/19 return in time for me to qualify for the self employed income support scheme
does anyone know where I stand with this as I only found out after the deadline as they made no contact with me prior to this advising that there was an issue
thanks

Based on lots of previous posts, i'm not sure there's anything you can do about this.
I can see a lot of accountancy firms getting fired or sued after this pandemic for failing in what would seem basic accounting duties.1 -
Any accountant worthy of the name would have had your accounts submitted with plenty of time to spare.
They were more than likely chasing you for invoice/receipts, etc. for months and you possibly took them in at 4:30pm on the 31st January deadline day?

If I as an accountant (I'm not btw) had to submit accounts by a certain date which I had done and then, due to extraordinary circumstances that meant that my client missed out why would I have been negligent?

The date a competent Accountant would have submitted the 18-19 tax return would have been by 31st January so, if that was not achieved it is likely to be down to the individual (not the Accountant). Missing the later date that no-one knew about was immaterial as the first penalties applied for missing the normal filing date.
Why did the OP (or their Accountant) miss the filing dates?2 -

They said that there was an issue with HMRC system as there was no option for them to submit my 18/19 return which would have been my first return
However they did not advise me of any issues
since found out that they could/ should have submitted an unsolicited return for 18/19
issue is that I am out of pocket by thousands of £ because of , in my eyes their negligence0 -

issue is them saying that they would meet the deadline for the SEISS and failing to do so with no contact with me until I attempted to claim for it0 -
You should make a formal complaint and ask them to compensate you. That will uncover why the return was not filed on time. If you are a one man taxi business I'm not clear why you couldn't have had your return filed a year ago?1

Then the only person to blame is yourrself.

(unless you agreed in your contract you would not hold them liable for consequential loss)
